Mongolians of Inner Mongolia

An estimated 4 million ethnic Mongolians live in the Inner Mongolia region of China, outnumbering the 3 million living in Mongolia! But there are over four times as many Han Chinese and other ethnic groups in Inner Mongolia as there are ethnic Mongolians.

A distinction between Northern and Southern Mongolia was first made in the mid-18th century. When the Republic of China was formed in 1911, Northern Mongolia declared itself to be a separate country and was supported in this assertion by Russia. Southern Mongolia was brought firmly under the control of China, and later became known as Inner Mongolia.

Traditionally Mongolians are herdsmen and farmers. In recent years they have been strongly encouraged by the government to become more sedentary and take on other jobs. Leaving their traditional lifestyles to live and work in large cities has been difficult for many Mongolians.

Most Mongolians practice a mixture of Tibetan Buddhism and folk religion. Religion for them centers around earning merit and appeasing spirits. Lamas are Buddhist religious leaders from whom people seek spiritual blessing, teaching, and guidance.

The Gospel has spread throughout Inner Mongolia in recent years, as it has throughout much of China, but most of this growth has been among the majority Han people. There are few Mongolian Christians or churches. Reported numbers of Mongolian Christians in Inner Mongolia vary widely from 3,000 to 30,000.

Prayer starters

• Pray for the growth of Mongolian churches in Inner Mongolia where Mongolians can hear the Gospel in their heart language.

• Pray that Han Chinese Christians will have a burden to share the Good News with their Mongolian neighbors.

• Pray that Mongolian Christians can be trained and discipled so that their churches will grow in maturity and number.

내 몽골 (內蒙古)의 몽골인들 – Korean Version

중국의 내몽골 (內蒙古)지역 안에 살고 있는 몽골 족은 4백만으로 추산되는데, 그 밖의 3백만의 몽골인이 몽골 본토에 살고 있습니다! 그러나 이 몽골족 보다 4배 가량 더 많은 한족과 다른 소수 민족들이 다른 종족으로서 내 몽골안에 살고 있습니다.

몽골이 남과 북으로 처음 나뉘어진 것은 18세기 중반 부터였습니다. 1911년 중화 인민 공화국이 세워져 갈 때 북 몽골은 독립국임을 선포하였고 러시아로 부터 이 주장의 지지를 받았습니다. 남 몽골은 중국의 강력한 통제를 받아 왔고 점차로 오늘의 내몽골로서 알려지게 되었습니다.

전통적으로 몽골인은 목양인들 혹은 농업인들이었습니다. 최근 들어 그들은 정부에 의해 제 2의 직업 혹은 다른 직업을 갖도록 적극적인 권고를 받아 오고 있습니다. 조상으로 부터 전수 받아온 생활과 노동 양식을 떠나 큰 도시에서 살아 가는 일은 많은 몽골족 들에게 매우 힘겨운 일이 되고 있습니다.

內蒙古的蒙古人 – Traditional Chinese Character Version

大約有四百萬不同種族的蒙古人居住在中國內蒙古境內，這個數字遠遠超過住在蒙古的居民，他們僅有三百萬！但是在內蒙古的漢族和其他族群加起來，卻比當地的蒙古人足足多上四倍。
