Prayer Blog: From Death to Life in Japan

Guest Post by Josh

The other day, I received a phone call from a man I met a-year-and-a- half ago at our coffee ministry. I was surprised, but so happy to hear his voice. He wanted to see me, so we met and talked. I didn’t say anything about God but just listened to him talk because I remembered that he wasn’t interested in hearing the Gospel every time I shared it with him. He told me about how he’s been surviving all the way through up until now. Then he said, “Tell me about God.” Wow!

I could see in his eyes that he really wanted to know a real God, not one of the 8 million gods, but the Creator. So without hesitation, I went through the plan of salvation and I asked him to believe Jesus as His personal Savior. He said, “I believe Him, that He died for my sins.” He accepted Him and he admitted how simple it is to make that decision. Later he told me about his shocking plan. He was actually going to go to a train station to throw himself in front of a moving train to kill himself if I didn’t answer the phone. I was the last person he was going to talk to before committing suicide. But now he has a new life in Christ … He is 53 years old.

Through this experience, again and again I realize that we are in a serious business dealing with people between life and death. At one time, this man had everything. He graduated from one of the top universities in Tokyo and worked in large financial corporations, but because his partner made a big mistake involving millions of dollars, it resulted in him losing his job, family, and everything he had worked for. It happened less than two years ago, and he has been jobless and homeless ever since. He said it took only one day to fall from the top to bottom. He is in good hands now, but please pray for Mr. S to grow in Christ and be able to find a job. He is willing to live his life for Christ.
