Hands On

Come be a missionary…walk the streets, learn the language, and share the love of Christ as you touch lives in the most populated nation of the world. Whether it’s in bustling mega-cities or rural villages, East Asia has a place for you. From China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea all the way to Tibet there are manifold opportunities for you to serve and share the Gospel with the 98% who are lost in this diverse and beautiful region.

Who can go?

  • ages 18 – 29 (students must have completed their freshman year of college)
  • members of Southern Baptist churches
  • able to spend 6 months away from school, work and other obligations

Why should I go?

  • Serve on a team to spread the love of Christ in the midst of lostness
  • Receive training to equip you to be a missionary
  • Be mentored and discipled by a missionary supervisor
  • Have a life changing experience

When?

  • Fall 2009: July to December (application deadline April 15)
  • Spring 2010: January to July (application deadline October 15)

Hands On - Evangelist-Explorer

You will live in a town that is on the edge of a large unreached area where 90% of the people are Zhuang. Work with a career couple living in the town and travel out over a large area of land to find out as much as you can about these counties. You will travel alone as a team, and sometimes with the career man. Goal is to learn as much about these counties as possible, locate people of peace, find schools, hospitals, and other institutions where we might send teams in the future.

Hands On - University Fisherman & Disciplemaker

You are needed! As a language student you'll be surrounded by over 20K students who need to hear God's truth. After morning class, hit the campus, practice your language, and make friends. Hang out, go shopping, share a meal, play basketball or video games, but above all tell them how God has changed your life. Share the gospel with many, and after they believe help them grow in Christ by modeling what it means to live out your faith in daily life. Join us and let God work through you in 2010!

Hands On - Make Friendships, Build Relationships

You will have opportunities in a university setting to learn Mandarin, make friends and build relationships. With these new friendships, you will be doing evangelism and Bible studies. One of your objectives will be to start Bible studies and train people to lead these studies so that when you leave, the study can continue. Another objective is to research demographics for the university and city. You will work hand in hand with the local missionary team leader.

Hands On - Sports EV Groundbreaker

Are you looking to spend six months of your life pouring into the lives of Chinese university students? Are you a gifted athlete ready to us the gifts God gave you to reach those who have yet to know Him? Volunteers will use sports as a way to meet students outside of the classroom. By initiating a relationship through sports volunteers will have opportunities to invest and share with friends. Are you ready and willing?

Hands On - Student Innovator

Are you looking to spend six months of your life pouring into the lives of Chinese students? By teaching at an English language school, English corners, and filling in for other classes as needed you will have many opportunities to invest in students and share your faith. Are you a self-starter with a love for teaching? If so, we are looking for a full-time teacher to be used in various ways to impact the students of southern China. Are you ready and willing?!

Hands On - College Student Ministry

You will be living 24/7 and studying Chinese language among 10,000+ college students in the local teacher's college. Come share your life and the Hope you have within you as you break down the walls surrounding their hearts and minds with the life-changing power of the Gospel. Your time will be spent building relationships, sharing the Gospel, grouping and training students to begin reproducing churches. You will receive intensive on-site training and high accountability to ensure your success.

Hands On - Student Athletes/Martial Arts Students

You will work with college athletes and sports students, and must play one or more of the following: Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Martial Arts, Body building/fitness, and Track and Field. Objectives: participate in sports activities; discuss life topics; English corners, bible studies, for the purpose of EV. Must be in good health. Athletes preferred.

Do you love children and desire to teach? You will have a unique chance to use their God given abilities to teach children, speak gospel truth into the lives of families, & train them to be disciples while watching the Holy Spirit impact lives with the power and gospel of Jesus Christ! Are you ready to exhaust yourself by helping us reach the future leaders of China? Are you reading to be light on a dark campus? While studying Chinese on a university campus you will have a great opportunity to meet and train students to be disciples who are fully equipped for all God calls them to do. Are you ready and willing?

Hands On - Frontier Home Management Internship

Are you a young woman interested in eventually raising a family on the rural missionary frontier? Then this job is just what you need! This internship is for young women who want to learn the hands-on skills necessary to raise a thriving, evangelically vibrant family on the frontier of lostness. While living on a farm 20 minutes from the nearest city, you will be mentored/serve alongside several experienced young Missionary Wives/Mothers learning to THRIVE in a rural international atmosphere.

Hands On - Chin-glish Exchanger

Are you looking to spend six months of your life pouring into the lives of Chinese university students? Are you ready to exhaust yourself by helping us reach the future leaders of China? Are you reading to be light on a dark campus? This volunteer will teach oral English part-time and receive Chinese classes in return. Being on campus as a student and a teacher you will receive many opportunities to invest and disciple students to be church planters. Are you ready and willing?

Hands On - Mountain Biking Backpackers

Your objective is to research remote areas on bike or foot in order to gather information, develop contacts, and form relationships. The goal is to make 3-4 trips into the mountains. Work site conditions will be remote and mountainous. When in the place of residence your objective is to develop contacts from the assigned people group who are residing in an urban context (students, business owners, etc...).

Hands On - Build Relationships

You will work at school settings like colleges or English learning academies where you will teach English and learn Chinese. You will work with missionaries cooperatively on the projects or activities, learning and experiencing missionary work. These projects and activities can include; 1). Operating summer and winter English camps for many different levels of students, 2). Lecturing at college classrooms on American culture such as American Holidays, college life, American sports and education, 3). Participating in the culture exchange classroom activities like celebrating Christmas and Easter with local students, 4). Participating or starting English Corner where you meet with young people to make friends, 5). And involving in other recreational activities like hiking, swimming, traveling around to sightseeing, etc. You will also visit believers’ small group meetings with local students and participate in praise and worship. Through all these activities, you will meet and build relationship with local youths/college students with whom you can share some spiritual matters. Our team has two couples, young and old and two young single teammates and every one of us will be directly involved in helping you learn how to go about doing things and witnessing to the locals. If needed, we can show step by step training on teaching English and discipleship training so you can train the locals when the time comes.

Hands On - Malaysia

We need young people looking for an opportunity to serve the Lord in a variety of capacities: sports evangelism, student outreach on campuses, or just personally share your faith with others.

Hands On - Deep Relationship Building

Form deep relationships with and win the lost, disciple believers, and help birth a self-sustaining ministry on a university campus. Mentoring and coaching by a veteran missionary will reinforce mission theory and practice. Study Chinese Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to noon, and spend the rest of the day engaging students.

Hands On - Japan and Korea

Hands On - Engineering Technician

The Community Development Team has the vision of caring for people’s spiritual and physical needs so that Christ’s love and compassion will be demonstrated and his word proclaimed. To this end our team does water; sanitation; and environmental protection projects. You may frequently live in situations with few comforts, requiring you to eat food which is extremely spicy and different from what westerners enjoy. The smile in your eyes and His will be a great reward for the hard work.

Hands On - City of Lights

In the Green City of Lights you will partake in endless opportunities of engaging thousands of university students in a city of 3 million with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The nickname for this city is "The Green City," meaning it is saturated with beautfiul parks, trees, lakes and scenery. It is a modern city with movie theatres, shopping malls, coffee shops, and innumerable venues of meeting students. The main vehicle by which you will communicate Jesus is through sports, music, the arts, shopping, or English chats combined with your unique God-given skill set and gifting. You will live on campus immersed in a sea of students who desire to know more about you and your host country. Your primary objective is to share the Gospel, disciple students and begin gathering them into groups to train to share their faith and discple others. You can take a short trip to the beach or ride bikes in the mountains all while making a difference for the Kingdom. You will have an incredible opportunity to learn the language and culture of 1.6 billion people, hang, sip on some milk tea and impact the lives of waves of unreached students.
